• Alert: School District #25 will be offering summer school courses for credit recovery from June 11-July 3, and July 8-July 30. All students who need to make up credits will need to register with their school counselor before the end of the school year (May 31st).

Music Course Information

Beginning Guitar: Grades:9-12 -1 Trimester

Description: This is a beginning course for classical guitar. Students will learn how to read music, form basic chord progressions, and play simple classical guitar solos. Each student is required to provide a classical guitar, foot rest, and workbook.

Concert Band: Grades:9-12 | 3 Trimester

Students will work on music fundamentals while rehearsing for performances. Music techniques necessary for later participation in Symphonic Band will be developed. Members of this group may be required to attend extra rehearsals and sectionals. Students who elect to go on tour with the band are responsible for trip expenses. However, fund raising activities will be provided to help with the cost of travel.

Drum Line: Grades:9-12 | 1 Trimester | Prerequisite: Audition

Drum line is an audition only class to prepare music to perform and compete with the Marching Band. August camps are a part of the curriculum and will be part of the grade. Members will also prepare percussion ensemble music and band literature for the December concert.

Percussion: Grades:9-12 | 2 Trimester | Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation

Percussion class is open to all students second and third trimesters who wish to learn percussion techniques. This class emphasizes proper technique on all percussion instruments (including keyboard and note reading). The percussion ensemble prepares and performs for the solo/ensemble festival, and band literature for concerts with the symphonic band.

Jazz Band: Grades:9-12 | 2 Trimester | Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation, concurrent enrollment in Symphonic Band

Some rehearsals and performances occur outside the school day. Members will study and perform different forms from the jazz genre. This class is taught during zero hour. Concurrent enrollment in symphonic band is required. Early morning Jazz Band members must participate in Symphonic Band during second and third trimesters.

Marching Band: Grades:9-12 | 1 Trimester | Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in symphonic band

Early morning Marching Band members must participate in Symphonic Band during second and third trimester. This class is designed to prepare students to perform and compete as the Pocatello Marching Band during the marching band season. August camps, early morning rehearsals, and one evening rehearsal per week are part of the curriculum in order to prepare shows for in-state and out-of-state competitions, and featured half times. All rehearsals, performances, camps, and competitions are graded. See the band instructor for dates of required summer camps. This class is taught during zero hour.

Symphonic Band: Grades:9-12 | 3 Trimester

This class promotes music skill and improves performance ability and is for wind players only. Members will participate in the Marching Band. Some rehearsals and performances occur outside the school day. There will be costs associated with this class. Mandatory band camp takes place in August.
