PCSD 25 Transitional Kindergarten teacher named as District 25’s Employee-of-the-Month
The Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25’s Employee-of-the-Month P.I.E.S. award recognizes employees who Positively Influence Educational Success. The award is for employees who go above and beyond in that effort. Ms. Emily Smith is December’s PIES Award recipient. Ms. Smith is a Transitional Kindergarten teacher at Lewis & Clark Elementary. She was nominated for this award by the school’s counselor, Mallery Davie.
In her nomination letter, Ms. Davie wrote, “Mrs. Smith is the epitome of empathy and personalization as both an educator and a mentor. She truly sees each of her students as individuals with their own stories, challenges, and dreams, making it her mission to create an environment where everyone feels seen and heard. One of the most admirable qualities of Mrs. Smith is her ability to connect with students on a personal level, always meeting them where they are at. She takes the time to engage with each student, asking about their interests, family, and what they enjoy outside of school. Whether it’s remembering a student’s favorite sport or checking in on their weekend plans, her genuine interest fosters relationships within her students.
As the transitional kindergarten teacher at Lewis and Clark, you can find her every morning in the cafeteria, greeting every student and staff member with a caring smile and a personal message. Her warmth sets a positive tone for the day and helps cultivate a sense of belonging among everyone.
Mrs. Smith’s empathy extends beyond academics; she actively fosters a supportive community within her classroom and among the staff. She offers a listening ear, allowing anyone around her to share their concerns without judgment. She offers an open hand, where she helps wherever she is needed, with a smile on her face. This includes shoveling bark on her personal time in the playground to make it a better environment for our learners, helping regulate students' emotions in other classrooms, and offering advice and direction among her coworkers. This open, accepting atmosphere encourages students and staff to feel comfortable being vulnerable, knowing they have a supportive advocate in Mrs. Smith.
In every way, Mrs. Smith embodies the spirit of Positively Influencing Educational Success (PIES). Her passion, dedication, and genuine love for her students create an environment where everyone can thrive and achieve their goals. Her classroom is not just a place for learning; it’s a nurturing community where she allows students to feel empowered to reach their full potential."
I am honored to know her!
Thank you for your contributions to our learners and to our school district. Mrs. Smith was recognized at the Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 and received a $50 gift card from the educational partner for this award, Lookout Credit Union.
